Gourmet Festival (30th May - 2nd June 2013)

Hungary’s most prestigious and diverse gastro event, the Gourmet Festival, will again await its visitors in the Millenáris Park, between May 30 and June 2. The event is a must for those who love Hungarian gastronomy. Almost the entire list of the top Hungarian restaurants will be there; from the pearls of the countryside to those showcasing Budapest’s star chefs. Exhibitors will participate from around the country, so all the culinary pleasures that otherwise would only be accessible after quite a travel, will be available here in one place.

As a noteworthy novelty, this year’s Gourmet puts Goulash, the best-known Hungarian dish, firmly in focus. In 2013, the organisers set the aim to reach beyond and further educate the public by making it possible for them to sample the tastes from the country’s best restaurants in one location. So all this and a lot more awaits visitors between May 30 and June 2 at Millenáris Park, Budapest.

August

Sziget Fesztivál (5th - 11th August 2013)

Sziget Festival is the proud winner of the „2011 Best European Major Festival” award and known as one of the biggest multicultural events of Europe, starting in 1993 and already celebrating its 21st edition.

The festival attracts almost 400 000 fans from over 70 countries to a beautiful island in the heart of Budapest, providing a complete festival-holiday experience with non-stop party, great live concerts, a widely international community and all the touristic features the city has to offer.

Sziget is many festivals in one, a week long non-stop event with approx. 60 program venues and around 200 programs daily. Performing bands range from the biggest names of the international pop/rock scene to stars of world and electronic music, but you will also find metal, folk, jazz, blues, alternative and even classical tunes, while you are wondering around the huge festival area.

Sziget is not just about music, as it offers several other cultural programs, like theatre, circus, or exhibitions. This is the only big festival where you will find a Roma tent and even a gay-lesbian venue. And we shouldn’t forget about the fact that the festival is in the middle of Budapest, a touristic city with a lively cultural scene, beautiful historic buildings, Turkish spas and special ’ruin pubs’.

MOL World Fencing Championship (5th-12th August, 2013)

We Have the Cutting Edge!

Fencing is the most successful sport of Hungary. Áron Szilágyi swept up the thirty-fifth Olympic medal of fencing at the London Olympic Games thus propelling fencing ahead of other sports in Hungary. In addition to the gold medals, Hungarians collected 22 silver and 26 bronze medals in Olympic duels, so it is fair to declare ourselves being one of the superpowers of fencing in addition to the Italian and French fencers.

The year 2013 will be the 100th anniversary of the founding nine nations launching the International Fencing Federation (Fedération Internationale d’Escrime, FIE) in the French capital city. We are deservedly proud of the fact that Hungary is among those nine, and the Hungarian Fencing Federation has been honoured by hosting the centennial World Championships in Budapest in August 2013.
